The King’s Creation, Part Two
Week Three | January 19-25
Day One
Day Two
Day Three
Day Four
Day Five
God created his earthly kingdom in all its splendor. To complete his creation, he formed man in his image. Nothing else in creation bore the image of God. Man was set apart for a unique role in the kingdom. God saw that it was not good for man to be alone, so he formed woman out of the man. Together they made the first marriage, man and woman, uniquely designed to reflect God’s glory. He set Adam and Eve as rulers of his kingdom to represent him, do his will, and show the world his perfect character.
Graeme Goldsworthy defines God’s kingdom as, “God’s people in God’s place under God’s rule and blessing.” We see God’s kingdom in perfect form in the garden of Eden. God was with Adam and Eve, as a best friend to his creation! They were under God’s loving rule, enjoying his blessing in His Kingdom, just as he designed it to be.

Day One
Read
Here are some verses for your family to read about God creating man in His image:
Genesis 1:26-31
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Discuss
Ask younger kids specific questions about the verses or to retell the passage. Ask older kids critical thinking questions. Here are a few suggestions:
What instructions did God give to Adam and Eve when he placed them in Eden, as his representatives in his kingdom?
What is unique about God creating man?
What did God think about everything he had made at the end of the sixth day?
What stood out to you about this section?
How should we respond to what we read?
Pray
Lead your family in a time of prayer over what you read.
Consider the ACTS model:
A – Adoration/ praise God (remember that this is part of worshiping God)
C – Confession (confess sin and your need of God)
T – Thanksgiving (thank God)
S – Supplication (ask God to supply your needs)
Today we will focus on A – Adoration:
Lord, we adore you as our creator, who designed us in your image, to reflect your character. What an incredible honor, to be unique from all creation, bearing your image! You designed every intricate detail of our bodies and breathed life into our lungs. You are the God of wow! In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
Day Two
Read
Here are some verses for your family to read about God creating man. This is a zoomed in account of how it happened:
Genesis 2:5-9
Genesis 2:5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, 6 and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground— 7 then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. 8 And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Discuss
Ask younger kids specific questions about the verses or to retell the passage. Ask older kids critical thinking questions. Here are a few suggestions:
Has it ever rained at this point in the history of creation?
How was the earth watered?
How did God form the man?
What did God cause to grow in the garden of Eden?
What stood out to you about this section?
Today we will focus on C – Confession:
Heavenly Father, when we consider how you created us, breathing life into our lungs, and providing all things for us, the thought of sinning against you is overwhelming. We confess that we have sinned against you, rejecting your perfect creation and the role and responsibility given to us as your image bearers. We admit that without you, we would be dust. Help us to live in a way that glorifies you, as you designed us to be. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
Day Three
Read
Here are some verses for your family to read about how God created the first woman:
Genesis 2:18-25
Genesis 2:18 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,
“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
Discuss
Ask younger kids specific questions about the verses or to retell the passage. Ask older kids critical thinking questions. Here are a few suggestions:
How is the way woman was created different from the way man was created?
Who created marriage? What does this section teach us about God’s design for marriage?
How should we honor God’s design for marriage?
Today we will focus on T – Thanksgiving:
Lord, thank you for seeing man’s need for a helper and intricately, carefully, and purposefully creating woman. Thank you for designing such a beautiful relationship, marriage, between a man and a woman. We love you Lord! In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
Day Four
Read
Here are some verses for your family to read about the Kingdom of God as He designed it:
Psalm 8:4-9
Psalm 8:4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? 5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Discuss
Ask younger kids specific questions about the verses or to retell the passage. Ask older kids critical thinking questions. Here are a few suggestions:
Who cares for man and is mindful of him?
What does this say humans are given dominion (control) over?
What does this passage teach you about God?
How should we respond to what we read?
Pray
Lead your family in a time of prayer over what you read.
Consider the ACTS model:
A – Adoration/ praise God (remember that this is part of worshiping God)

S – Supplication (ask God to supply your needs)
Today we will focus on S – Supplication:
