The King’s Creation, Part One

Week Two | January 12-18

Day One

Day Two

Day Three

Day Four

Day Five

Out of the perfect love that existed between the three persons of the Trinity, everything came into existence. God creates and establishes his kingdom on earth out of love, desiring for his creation to enjoy the harmonious relationship he already had since before time began. God is not lacking anything. He did not need creation to fulfill him. Creation is the overflow of his love and was designed to bring him glory.

Let’s look at all that God created and think about how wonderful it would have been to hear the voice of God speak and see creation obey perfectly, jumping into action to form his earthly kingdom, just as he designed it to be! God is an amazing Creator!

Day One

Read

Here are some verses for your family to read about God the Creator, bringing forth light out of the darkness and separating the heavens from the earth.

Genesis 1:1-8; Genesis 2:4; 2 Corinthians 4:6

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. 6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. 8 And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

Genesis 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Discuss

Ask younger kids specific questions about the verses or to retell the passage. Ask older kids critical thinking questions. Here are a few suggestions:

How did God create?

What happened when God spoke?

What stood out to you about this section?

In your own words, describe days one and two of creation.

How should we respond to what we read?

Pray

Lead your family in a time of prayer over what you read.

Consider the ACTS model:
A – Adoration/ praise God (remember that this is part of worshiping God)
C – Confession (confess sin and your need of God)
T – Thanksgiving (thank God)
S – Supplication (ask God to supply your needs)

Today we will focus on A – Adoration:
God of all creation, it is incredible to think that you commanded all things into existence with your Word. You spoke and it came to be! Your power has no limits. Just as you brought light into the darkness, Jesus came as the Light of the World. We praise You! Amen.

Day Two

  Read

Here are some verses for your family to read about God continuing to create and design.

Genesis 1:9-19

9 And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. 14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

Forgive us for how little we reciprocate that care back to you. We admit how selfish we can be. Please help us to care as you do. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Day Three

Read

Here are some verses for your family to read about God filling his creation with all types of animals, in the sea, sky, and on land.

Genesis 1:20-25

20 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. 24 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25 And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
