Prayer and Preparation
Week zero | January 1-6
Day One
Day Two
Day Three
Thank you for joining the His Kingdom Come Family Devotional! We are excited to read through the Bible with you this year! Beginning on the first Sunday of the year, January 7, you will find content for four days to sing, read, discuss, and pray, followed by a fifth day for rest and review. This structure is designed to help your family gather around God’s word and establish rhythms of worship in your home.
As we begin the new year, let us first go to God in prayer, drawing near to the one who gives us all wisdom and understanding of his word. We will prepare our heart and mind for the work he will do through this devotional.

Day One
Read
Psalm 25:1-5
1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
let me not be put to shame;
let not my enemies exult over me.
3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long.
Psalm 119:18
18 Open my eyes, that I might behold wondrous things out of your law.
prepare
- If you are using the printed calendar resource, hang it in a place where you will see it regularly and where it can be incorporated easily into your daily rhythm. Consider putting it near your table so that as you finish a meal together you can use that time to sing, read, discuss, and pray.
- If you are using this website without the calendar, bookmark this website for quick access.
- Memorize Psalm 25:4-5
Pray
- Ask God to teach you and your family as you read through his word with this devotional guide. Ask for a clear understanding of what he is doing with each chapter and how it all points us to Jesus.
- Pray Psalm 119:18, that God would open your eyes to behold wondrous things out of God’s word.
Day Two
Read
Psalm 86:11-13
11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.
12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name forever.
13 For great is your steadfast love toward me;
you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.
Psalm 112:1
1 Praise the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
who greatly delights in his commandments!
prepare
- Consider your family schedule. Do you have a set time to gather around God’s word? If not, consider what might need to change so that the rhythm of family worship can be a blessing and not a burden.
Pray
- Thank God for giving us his word which gives life.
- Pray that you would delight in God’s word more and more every week and that you would be blessed by it.
Day Three
Read
Psalm 119:9-16
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.
prepare
